Bal-A-Vis-X Club
Join us for a 6 week group of after school structured Movement/Bal-A-Vis-X Group, led by Libby Bishop, OT/L, BAL-A-VIS-X certified.
BAL-A-VIS-Xis a series of Balance (“Bal”)/Auditory (“A”)/Vision (“Vis”) exercises (“X”) for Brain and Brain-Body Integration, of varied complexity, most of which are deeply rooted in rhythm. These exercises require full-body coordination and focused attention. It utilizes sand-filled bags, racquetballs, and balance boards. This research-based program shows that students regularly engaged in Bal-A-Vis-X show gains in personal, social and academic skill-building.
Exercises address visual tracking deficiencies and auditory imprecision, impulsivity, balance and anxiety issues. By virtue of teachable techniques (not athleticism), Bal-A-Vis-X enables body systems to experience the flow of a pendulum, thereby affording brain systems calm and sustained focus. Individual exercises promote self-challenge. Partner and group exercises demand cooperation and foster peer teaching.
This group is open to participants who are not current clients, but you will be asked to participate in a Goodness of Fit phone assessment prior to enrolling.
There are 2 groups, by age:
Thursday afternoons (4-5pm), ages 12+
Friday afternoons (4-5pm), ages 6-11

Frequently Asked Questions & Course Overview
Welcome! This guide is designed to help parents and students explore the structure, content, and multidisciplinary instruction behind our upcoming double extracurricular program.
-
The curriculum was developed by Special Educator Lisa Said, M.Ed. using an innovative, cross-curricular approach. This integrated model supports students in learning and connecting content simultaneously across both subject areas—Visual Art and Physical Education.
Designed specifically for students who are non-speaking or unreliably speaking with total body apraxia and dyspraxia, the dual-focus curriculum uses adaptive activities to build body awareness, communicate ideas, and create meaningful art and movement.
-
The course fee includes a standard Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment, full tuition for both the Art and Physical Education courses, all project materials and artistic supplies, and an end-of-semester showcase celebration.
Every class is co-facilitated by two highly trained specialist instructors:
Course Area- Visual Arts
Lead Instructor- Ms. Sam B.F.A., Rhode Island School of Design; Certified AZ Substitute Teacher
Support Specialist- Ms. Onalee Roe, OT-R Occupational Therapist & Author; Sensory Integration training
